FAITHFULNESS IN LITTLE THINGS IS A BIG THING.*
It is Monday again. Sure, seems to me that Mondays are coming around a lot faster than they use to. So, what does you week look like? By the weekend we will be already halfway through the month of January. Which also begs the question of how your resolutions are going? If reading scripture through this blog is one of them – then you can check that off as being successful thus far. Our inspirational thought reminds me that the discipline of doing what may seem insignificant will pay great dividends in the future. What little thing can you invest in this week that will sharpen and strengthen your faith for the long haul?
In our pick verses today, we transition from a section that addressed Jesus’ faithfulness to one that addresses our being faithful. The verses both today and tomorrow quote a portion of Psalm 95. Once again, the author is cementing the undeniable connecting between the prophecy of the Old Testament and the reality of Jesus. This Psalm is a warning to God’s chosen people not to follow the example set by the unfaithful Israelites who wandered spiritual lost in the wilderness. With the promised land in sight, they still rejected a lifestyle of faithfulness and chose instead to follow their own agendas and personal desires. Just as the Old Testament points to the reality of Jesus, it also is a stern reminder that our human tendency is to rebel against God’s perfect love, plan, and promise for our lives.
