Thursday – January 20th – Hebrews 5:1-2     -----

5:1) For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2) He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
ONE ALMIGHTY IS MORE THAN ALL MIGHTIES.*

Happy Thursday to you! Our inspirational thought comes from the daily scripture reading in the book of Exodus where God is working through Moses to deliver the plagues upon Pharoah and Egypt. If you remember in the story (or movie) the several of the acts performed by Moses were matched by the magicians of Egypt. The devil tempts us to be God “like”, instead of being content with being created in the “image” of God. As a result, we attempt, within the restrictions our limited human resources, to match what God can do. To compensate for our limitations that path will be to decrease God’s power and discredit God’s word so that God is equal to our human abilities. The Egyptians eventually discovered they were subservient to the Almighty God of the Hebrew slaves. Our greatest awakening comes when we realize the devil feeds us lie after lie in an attempt to draw us away from God.

In our pick verses today, we are introduced to a new section comparing the human high priests who served Israel and Jesus the perfect high priest for all people as both offered sacrifice for the sins of others. All those in the line of Aaron were limited to having compassion for the people, to make allowance for their human actions and in the end, they had to live within the reality of the limits humanity when it comes to obedience. The reason being that the human high priest was also still subject to their own weakness of humanity. In contrast, Jesus being without sin, is able to make the repent sinner whole, clean, and perfect in the eyes of God. We are the blessed recipients of God’s grace and forgiveness of sin – and we have the right and privilege and responsibility to live our lives as free and victorious people.

Blessings
