Friday – January 21st – Hebrews 5:3-4     -----

5:3) Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins.
4) And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE PERSON WHO PROVIDES FOR THIS LIFE BUT TAKES NO CARE FOR THE NEXT IS WISE FOR A MOMENT BUT A FOOL FOREVER.*

Welcome my friends to Friday! End of the week has arrived and with it the reminder we are still hanging out in the frigid depths of winter in the shadow of the SunRise steeple. Our inspirational thought for today focuses entirely on the importance of our personal salvation. The devil can be quick to tempt us to only seek enjoyment for this moment and promises us momentary happiness if we pursue the latest and greatest the world has to offer. However, if we let the Holy Spirit speak into our hearts, we will instead hear the necessity of investing in our eternal future through a relationship with Jesus. And, at least from my experience, I still have been blessed with a full and abundant life while I wait for heaven someday.

In our pick verses for today our author continues defining the contrast between Jesus the perfect High Priest and the human high priests who represented Israel. The human high priest, while holding an honorable and prestigious position as mediator between God and the people, was not automatically absolved from penalty for his own sin. Neither was he elevated to a special category of human beings or was he exempt from the penalty of the law. Rather, he had to cope with, more directly and personally than all the others, the immense gulf between sin and holiness, between people and God. Of all the people, the earthly high priest should understand how humbling a job he had – and how vital a role he played in the spiritual health of the people of God. And yet, with all these rights and responsibilities he was still a human being who would sin and fall short of the glory of God. We should always remember that every human being, no matter the height of the pedestal, is flawed and thus we should only rely on Jesus who was without sin.

Blessings
