Monday – January 24th – Hebrews 5:9-11 -----
5:9) And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
10) called by God as High Priest "according to the order of Melchizedek,"
11) of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
GOD GIVES US THE INGREDIENTS FOR OUR DAILY BREAD, BUT HE EXPECTS US TO DO THE BAKING.*
Welcome to another Monday and the last full week in January 2022. Our inspirational thought for today is a great way to kick-off this week. As a fully committed follower of Jesus we are expected to be active and involved in populating the Kingdom of Heaven. One of the greatest fallacies of Christian discipleship is that we are just along for the ride – similar to a passenger on a train enjoying the view as they gaze out the window. Sadly, this mindset has caused many to walk away from growing as a disciple when the realize there is work involved in following Jesus. I am reminded of my weekly trips home from seminary. I would leave on Thursday afternoons during the Kansas City rush hour praying that God would protect me from the crazy city drivers. No matter how intentional or heartfelt my prayer, God still expected me to sit in the drives seat so I could turn the steering wheel and apply the gas and brake as needed. Being a follower of Jesus is a partnership. Working together with God and with others in our church family will produce unbelieve results for the kingdom – more than what we could ever do on our own.
In our pick verse today, we conclude, at least for now, how Jesus is the eternal and obedient High Priest who came from God as the Messiah for the world. Jesus, as part of the Trinity, was without flaw from before the beginning of creation. He was perfectly able to save us through His completely obedient and sinless life and his sacrificial death on the cross. In contrast to Jesus, the earthly priesthood that descended from Aaron which was noted for their sinfulness and their ineffectiveness in fully representing the people before God. Jesus’ offer of eternal salvation is only for those who seek and strive to obey Him continually. Once again, we are reminded of Melchizedek as being a symbol of Jesus’ eternal priesthood which superseded the Aaronic priests by hundreds of years.

Oops, major typo: "completely obedient and SINLESS life."
I like the car-driving analogy. It is helpful for me to reread segments together (ie verses 5-11). Thank you.
