Tuesday – January 25th – Hebrews 5:12-14 -----
5:12) For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
13) For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
14) But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE TABLETS AT SINAI WERE GIVEN TO SHOW THE NEED FOR THE CROSS AT CALVARY.*
Good Tuesday to you! You can probably quickly deduce that our inspirational thought today comes from the scripture readings associated with Moses receiving the 10 commandments. Extra points today for those who know where this story is located in the Bible – double extra points if you know without looking it up in the Bible or on google. Tripe extra points if you can list the ten commandments from memory. The premise of today’s inspirational statement is the impossibility for any human to be able to keep the letter of these commandments perfectly. We consistently fall short in living up to the mark God has established for each of us. But because God loved us more than we could imagine, Jesus took our place and received the final penalty for our sinful actions. Where the law (10 commandments) binds us, the cross sets us free. Now this doesn’t mean that we can disregard the ten commandments in our lives because Jesus has paid the bill, it simply means that when our very best efforts fail Jesus has our back. Yes, it is important to know where the 10 commandments are located and what they are, but it is even more important to know Jesus as our savior.
In our pick verses today, we close out chapter five with a short focus on the danger of spiritual immaturity. A spiritual awakening is the first step in our discipleship process, but it is far from the only step in a life-long journey with Jesus. The author is quick to point out that the readers of this letter may be guilty of having forgotten the basic Christian teachings that are necessary for conversion and salvation. The author likens this as a baby who starts out being fed milk as the only means of their nutrition, but there comes a time when milk is replaced by solid food. In our spiritual lives, the solid food is the teaching about the adequacy of our savior to give us victory over sin. The maturing Christians are those who have practiced the things of God until they are able to distinguish good from evil, and then live their lives accordingly. If we struggle with knowing good from evil, it might be a reflection of where we are on our spiritual path. How would you define your Christian walk right now – beginning or mature?
Blessings
