Monday – January 31st – Hebrews 6:13-15     ------

6:13) For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,
14) saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you."
15) And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
HOW MANY FRIENDS WOULD YOU HAVE LEFT IF YOU STARTED SPENDING AS MUCH TIME WITH THEM AS YOU DO WITH GOD?*

Welcome to Monday and the welcome to the last day of January 2022. In theory 1/12 of the year will soon be in the books. What is really exciting is that 11/12 of a year of unlimited possibilities and opportunities are still ahead. Our inspirational thought for today created a powerful pause and reflection moment for me. Of course, I had to complicate the question by questioning not only how many friends I would have, but at what depth would each of those friendships be gauged. A few years ago, I preached a sermon on “friends” and how I often blur the line between the two terms “friend” and “acquaintance”. For example, according to Facebook I currently have 1,116 “friends”.  Yet if I am honest, some of those folks I have never had personal conversation with or could pick them out of a line-up – yet they qualify as my “friends”. Back to our inspirational thought – who would still be your friend if the time we spend with God is the filter of the time we spend with them. An even bigger question for me is the health of my relationship with God reflective of the health of the relationship I have with my true friends?  What are your thoughts?

In today’s pick verses from the sixth chapter of Hebrews, our author introduces a new focus for us to consider. Over the next three days we will explore how we can be confident that our hope in Christ is both sure and steadfast. The Old Testament patriarch, Abraham is cited as an example of how his faith in God displayed his patient endurance. Ultimately, God’s promise of blessing given to Abraham finds its final fulfilment when we enter into the presence of God in Heaven. However, Abraham was far from perfect as he learned to grow in his faith and trust of God. Reading through his story in Genesis we are reminded that more than one time Abraham became impatient with God’s timing and took matters into his own hands. Each time of impatience resulted in less than favorable results. But God was willing to forgive a repentant Abraham each and every step of the way. No matter what is on your historical resume from decades ago - or even minutes ago - God is willing to forgive you when you are sincerely repentant in your heart. What conversation might you need to have with God today?

Blessings
