Friday – February 4th – Hebrews 7:3 ------
7:3) without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WHAT PEOPLE UNCOVER, GOD WILL COVER; WHAT PEOPLE COVER, GOD WILL UNCOVER.*
Welcome to Friday. For those in the eastern, northern, western, or southern parts of Missouri, I hope you are being successful in the process of digging out and falling back into the weekly routine of getting ready for the weekend. Yes, at least for me, snow days (working from home) sure make the week rush by fast. How about you? If you read the inspirational thought today and are wondering what part of the Bible inspires this, then look no further than the mid-part of the Old Testament book of Leviticus. This principle, around for over 3,500 years is still as real and relevant to modern day people as it was to the wandering Hebrews back in the days of Moses. A plain and simple fact about the nature of God is that nothing is hidden from the one who created all that exists. The fancy word to describe God’s awareness of all things is Omniscience. Couple omniscience with the other aspects of God’s character: omnipotence (all-powerful), omnipresence (everywhere at once), and omnibenevolence (all good), and we can rest assured that we are unconditionally loved by a God who knows everything, has the power to do anything, is always supremely good to us, and is everywhere in creation all at once. How can we not trust a God who is all that, and who died for our sins?
In our pick verse today, we continue the teaching from Hebrews on the priest Melchizedek. In the Jewish tradition, if a Levitical priest failed to prove his ancestry, he would be immediately disqualified to serve as a priest for the nation of Israel. However, Melchizedek’s ancestry was apparently unknown, and he was not followed in the priesthood by any of his descendants, yet he was recognized by God as a priest. He was given this role by eternal power through a direct calling from God, thus becoming the fitting prototype of the eternal priesthood of Jesus the Messiah. Once again it is important to remember that the author of Hebrews is connecting the accepted history of the Jewish people with the reality that Jesus was in fact the promised Messiah. Even though the Messiah’s arrival was not in the way expected by the religious leaders, Jesus clearly brought to life the words of the prophets who foretold of God’s plan. The “omni” God had a perfect plan carried out by a perfect savior.
Blessings
