Monday – February 7th – Hebrews 7:11     -----

7:11) Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron?

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
YOU CANNOT WALK WITH GOD AND RUN WITH THE DEVIL.*

Good Monday to you, my friends! A new week filled with unlimited outreach and discipleship possibilities defines the role of a fully committed follower of Jesus. What a great inspirational thought for us to kick off this week. In what is the second most basic choice in life for each of us, only after accepting Jesus as our savior, is how we will live into our discipleship as a follower of Jesus. This inspirational thought is a stern reminder that we can’t choose to have life both ways. Either we chose to walk the path of doing God’s will, or we chose to divert our eyes from God’s truth and allow ourselves to be tempted by the devil to follow the ways of the world. Jesus was clear in saying that “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14 NLT). God gives us the freewill choice to choose our direction and our dedication. I stand on the statement Joshua used to conclude his final sermon to the Israelites – “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”

In our pick verse today, we begin the transition to focus on Jesus the Christ being our superior and perfect High Priest. The author of Hebrews makes a bold statement by saying the Jesus, the priest following in the order of Melchizedek, replaced the Levitical priesthood. For the devout Jewish person their understanding of historical faith is traced back to the tribe of Levi being anointed by God as the priestly clan, and more specifically Aaron (brother of Moses) as being the first High Priest. From the wandering in the wilderness to the time of Jesus, the priests were the official, authorized, and only human representatives able to come before God. The Levitical priests were the only ones who could offer sacrifices on behalf of the people. However, Jesus was able to achieve what both the priests and the law were unable to accomplish – perfection in and through His sacrifice. Jesus’ sacrificial death provided complete cleansing from sin and a direct access to God. Because of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection from the dead, we can live in confidence that our eternal presence in Heaven is guaranteed. Share that good news with someone today!

Blessings
