Tuesday – February 8th – Hebrews 7:12-14     -----

7:12) For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.
13) For He of whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no man has officiated at the altar.
14) For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
JESUS KNOWS WE MUST COME APART AND REST AWHILE OR ELSE WE MAY JUST PLAIN COME APART.*

Hello Tuesday! Our inspirational thought for today is filled with sage advice for all of us. Setting aside last week where normal routines were disrupted by winter weather throughout most of the Midwest, we would all probably agree that many times we are rushing full speed through our days. The devil employs the temptation of “busy” and “doing” as the only worthy measure of our successfulness as human beings. This is particularly true in North America where being busy is often rewarded with accolades, bonuses, and/or promotions. All the while we can ignore our own physical and spiritual health to accomplish things that most people will never know we have done. Yes, we are to be productive and strive to make a difference in the world, but not to the point we lose ourselves in the process. Our inspirational thought reminds us there must be a healthy balance between “doing” and “being”. Without replenishing the “being” we will find ourselves lacking in the “doing”. Take time today, this week, to send quite time reflecting, refreshing, and relaxing so you can then be what God has called you to be for the Kingdom of Heaven. Remember the 1971 McDonalds commercial – “you deserve a break today”.

In our pick verses today the author of Hebrews moves this chapter’s focus to the reality that Jesus is the supreme and perfect High Priest for all humanity. The author draws inspiration and references for this chapter from Psalm 110:4 in that he is making the case that Jesus it the priest of whom these things are spoken. God raises up this new priest from the tribe of Judah and not from the tribe of Levi. Thus, the ancient Levitical law which specified that priests must be from the tribe of Levi would be changed forever. Historically, the succession of the High Priests was of human origin, and they were subjected to temptation and would, like all humanity, fall to those temptations. The Bible often points out that many of the kings of the divided nations “did evil in the sight of God”, and historically we discover many of the High Priests were no different. By the time of Jesus, the priestly family of Annas was considered as corrupt as the kingly family of Herod. Interestingly both families were contemporaries who pushed for the death of Jesus. Jesus as God’s supreme High Priest and as the King of the Jews threatened both families earthly power.
