Thursday – February 10th – Hebrews 7:18-19     -----

7:18) For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness,
19) for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
LIFE IS A LOT LIKE TENNIS— THE GOAL IS TO LEARN TO SERVE BEST.*

Good Thursday to you! I smiled as I read the inspirational thought for today. Frist because of my skills and abilities with the game of tennis. While I haven’t picked up a racket in over 40+ years the memories of my level of play, especially in serving the ball was a constant power swing fault followed by a soft attempt to get it over the net and into play. The second smile comes from the simplicity of what this thought is suggesting. We discover our true place in our faith as we look past ourselves and to the needs of others. For those in the O’Fallon area “Serve Saturday” is coming this weekend. I would encourage you to check out the SunRise website for openings where you can practice your serve.

In our pick verse today, we continue working our way through chapter seven and the author’s comparison of Jesus to the Levitical priesthood. The law of Moses was not intended to save people but to point out their sin. In the early church the law was the starting point for people to see Jesus as the one who could save. Salvation comes through Jesus and Him alone, whose sacrifice brings forgiveness for our sins. Being ethical, keeping rituals, working diligently to help others, and/or giving to charitable causes are all commendable. But the sum of all of our good deeds cannot save us or make us right with God. Jesus is our only certain hope.

Blessings
