Friday – February 11, 2022 – Hebrews 7:20-22 -----
7:20) And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath
21) (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: "The Lord has sworn And will not relent, 'You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek' "),
2)2 by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.

Happy and healthy Friday to you! We are on the verge of another awesome and promising weekend. I hope your calendar is filled with special times as well as time to relax and recharge from your full and busy week. Our inspirational thought today echoes what I have stated for many years. I discovered long ago that my best witness for Jesus is how my life – both good and bad times - is observed by others. I could employ all of the proper and fancy theological words I learned in seminary, but if my actions contradict what the words of scripture, then my witness is easily dismissed. How would a jury rate your actions in correlation to God’s call for righteousness and obedience?
As we continue our journey through chapter seven of the book of Hebrews, it is probably a good idea to take a moment to remind ourselves that the author is carefully laying out a case for Jesus’ messiahship. The Israelites were waiting for God to send the long-promised Messiah to rescue their nation from generations of foreign oppression. Their view of what, how, and who would satisfy their messiah requirements was far different than the reality of Jesus’ life, ministry, and death. In today’s verses the author quotes the well accepted message in Psalm 110:4 to show that Jesus’ claim to the priesthood is firmly based on the oath of God. This better covenant is the better plan that God has made for people to come into an eternal relationship. Because Jesus is backed by the full authority of the Kingdom of Heaven, He is able to guarantee the validity of the new covenant of salvation. This is great news for the Hebrews and for us!
