Thursday – February 17th – Hebrews 8:6-7     -----

8:6) But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.
7) For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE OBJECT OF TEACHING IS TO ENABLE THOSE TAUGHT TO GET ALONG WITHOUT A TEACHER.*

Thursday has arrived for us to enjoy and to celebrate all the blessings we continually receive from God. The inspirational thought for today reminds me of the apostle Paul’s strategy of spreading the Gospel across the Roman Empire. Paul knew that if the new church was to successfully populate the Kingdom of Heaven with those who professed their faith in Jesus it would take more than him, more than the other apostles, more than a couple of hundred people who had witnessed for themselves the resurrected Jesus. To successfully share the Gospel, it would take disciples who would make disciples who then would make more disciples. You own discipleship is the byproduct of someone else telling you about their experience with Jesus. And you can bet your bottom dollar that they received a witness from someone who was telling them about the Jesus they knew. So, on this Thursday in February who becomes part of your connected legacy of telling others about Jesus – a legacy for you that started with one of the apostles?

In our pick verses today, we continue to explore the more excellent way of Jesus as being both savior and our perfect High Priest who offered Himself up as a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus’ priestly ministry qualifies as more excellent than the ministry of any of the Aaronic priests because Jesus as God’s appointed mediator, can bridge the gap between God and humanity. This new covenant is better because it accomplishes God’s ultimate purpose and is based on promises that offer us something better than ritual cleansing. The promises of this second covenant exposed that the old way was ineffective in providing a once and for always forgiveness from God. And by design was only intended to prepare the people for the future arrival of Jesus. This same Jesus is available to us and to our world today with the same offer of unconditional love and forgiveness.

Blessings
