Friday – February 18th – Hebrews 8:8-10 -----
8:8) Because finding fault with them, He says: "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah--
9) not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.
10) For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A LITTLE SIN WILL ADD TO YOUR TROUBLE, SUBTRACT FROM YOUR ENERGY, AND MULTIPLY YOUR DIFFICULTIES.*
WOW – Friday is here! The weekend is just around the corner which means now is a good time to review your kingdom activity for the week. On a scale of 1-10 or a grading curve with 100% being God’s standard, how would you grade out your faithfulness since Monday? I can’t help but factor in our inspirational thought today as I go over my weekly tally sheet. The primary job description of the devil is to place temptations, of any and all sizes, before us in hopes that we will give in and sin against God. While the devil is incapable of making us sin, the devil does know our every area of weakness and is completely willing to unashamedly exploit that proverbial soft spot in our armor. From my own personal experiences, the devil would rather bank on me giving into a series of little sins on a consistent basis, then only betting on me to falter under a huge, gigantic temptation. Don't underestimate the power of just a little sin. In other words, several little irritations can be more painful long term than a major pain all at once. You get the idea, if we can resist the devil in the little things, we would find ourselves on an upward trajectory and successfully developing an experienced defense against the big stuff.
In our pick verses today, the author champions the idea of God’s new covenant with not only Israel but also with the rest of humanity. The new covenant with its better promises is first prophesied in Jeremiah 31:31-34. So, how is this covenant new to a people who were told of it 600 years earlier? God’s people did not faithfully carry out the terms of God’s first covenant, therefore, under the new covenant God put his laws directly into the hearts and minds of the people who were willing to respond. God’s people will want to both obey and seek the power that comes from the Holy Spirit to live into this new covenant. Thus, as their reward they will have intimae fellowship with God. This change of heart first promised in the Old Testament is now made possible to all believers in and through the sanctifying work of Jesus the mediator and perfect High Priest. And believe me the devil will do whatever it takes to tempt you away from the perfection of our new relationship with God.
Blessings
