Saturday – February 19th – Hebrews 8:11     -----

8:11) None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
TELEVISION HAS TURNED THE FAMILY CIRCLE INTO A SEMICIRCLE.*

Good Saturday to you! Yes, another weekend is here for us to enjoy. What great plans have you made, or what are you considering as a way to enjoy the beauty of God’s unlimited creation? Typically to Missouri weather in March your activity chart could easily change by the hour over this weekend. I guess the wise person plans a combination of outside and inside options as a way to cover all the bases. I just briefly want to comment on the inspirational thought for today, which in a more modern rendition could also include computers and smartphones. Just curious how much screen time does the average scripture blog reader consume in a day? I am curious about entertainment purposes only and not screen time required for work or business. On most days Beth and I have about 60 minutes of TV time in the evening and 5-10 minutes of morning news to start off the day.

In our pick verse for today our author is driving home a major point in the difference between the old Levitical priesthood’s oversight of all things religious and the new covenant where all humanity has direct access to God through the priesthood of Jesus. While today’s verse may seem random and disconnected from the flow of chapter 8, it provides deep insight into a revolutionary premise that Jesus gifted to Christianity. In the old system all interaction between God and the people of Israel was mediated between first Moses, then Joshua with the accompanying work of the High Priests. Following Joshua, the priesthood became the official interpreters and spokespeople for the law. All instructions and insight flowed from top down to the common person. A relationship with God was available only through a corporate connection to the entire nation – when one person sinned - all suffered the consequence of that sin. The new covenant that comes through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus opens the door to a full access for our personal relationship with God. The symbolism of the curtain ripping apart in the temple at Jesus’ death meant that no longer was there a separation between God and humanity. The culmination of this covenant is reinforced in Revelation 21 when in the new order God will be with His people for all eternity. With Jesus as our mediator, we no longer need to have a human stand between us and God.

Blessings
