Tuesday – February 22nd – Hebrews 9:2-5     -----

9:2) For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the sanctuary;
3) and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All,
4) which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant;
5) and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

 The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
     IDOLATRY IS ANYTHING THAT COOLS YOUR DESIRE FOR CHRIST.*

    Hello Tuesday and for some folks the official first day of the work week. I always welcome a second opportunity to make a first start to the week. I will admit for me this month has been particularly difficult to remember which day of the week I wake up to in the morning. Between weekly snow disruptions (and it sounds like another round this week) and a holiday yesterday, referring to my handy desk calendar or nifty sticky dashboard calendar is the only way I can remember what day it is and where I need to be at that moment. Fortunately, I do know that whatever day it is, it is always a great day to serve God and to share my faith through my actions and my words. On this Tuesday where is God sending you to be a representative of unconditional love and grace?

     In our verses for today, the author of Hebrews reminds these Jewish readers of their ancestral roots of worship in the tabernacle. The arrangement of the two parts of the Old Testament tabernacle construction (45 feet long, 15 feet wide, and 15 feet tall) are important to help us understand the argument the author lays out in tomorrow’s verses (6-7). The sanctuary was the outer part of the tabernacle structure where the Levitical priests would be engaged in their ministerial duties on behalf of the rest of the nation. The Holiest of All, or the Holy of Holies, was the inner part where God had promised to dwell. Here is the lone description in the New Testament of the ark of the covenant and the articles housed inside the ark. Interestingly once the Ark of the Covenant was placed in the competed Temple of Solomon shortly after 900 BC it was no longer visible to the public, but only seen by the High Priest during the annual celebration of Atonement while serving inside the Holy of Holies. The disappearance of the Ark is believed to have occurred in 587BC when the Babylonians captured the city of Jerusalem. The location of the Ark of the Covenant remains an unsolved mystery, albeit not short on theories or tall tales as to its whereabouts today.

Blessings
