Wednesday – February 23rd – Hebrews 9:6-8 -----
9:6) Now when these things had been thus prepared, the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle, performing the services.
7) But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people's sins committed in ignorance;
8) the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational though for today:
WHEN YOUR HEART IS FILLED WITH FAITH, THERE IS NO ROOM LEFT FOR FEAR.*
Happy Wednesday to you! Our inspirational thought for today provides a lot of mental space for us to contemplate how these words affect our lives and our attitudes. I am certain everyone of us would check the box that we desire to live by faith and not by fear. However, I am sure if we were honest, we spend a whole lot more time flirting with fear than we would like to admit. While some may say that “fear” is not part of their life’s vocabulary, I have discovered that fear can quietly lurk around unnoticed when disguised as “worry”. And believe me when I say that worry and I are on a first name basis. Today’s inspirational thought has inspired (go figure) me to work on filling my heart with faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7 states that we are to walk by faith and not by sight.
In our pick verses today the author of Hebrews continues outlining the practices of ancient tabernacle worship. For the two million Hebrews wandering in the wilderness, the tabernacle-based worship system did not provide the people with direct or individual access to God. Only the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year on the Day of Atonement, and then only with a fitting, proper, and prescribed sacrifice to be offered to enter into God’s presence. The author is contrasting this ancient practice by showing how Jesus’ sacrifice opens the way for all of us to come into the presence of God. This openness is a foreshadowing of what Heaven will be like, where we will be continually in God’s presence and filled with unending worship and praise. By the fact that previous access to the Holy of Holies was unavailable, the Holy Spirit, the author of scripture, is showing us that we could not truly come to God through the old sacrificial system. The only way to God is through Jesus. Amen!
Blessings
