Thursday - February 24th – Hebrews 9:9-10     ------

9:9) It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience--
10) concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
SERVICE IS THE OVERFLOW OF SUPERABOUNDING DEVOTION.*

Good Thursday to you! One of the drawbacks of writing this blog a day or two ahead of time is the challenge of knowing exactly what the weather has in store for us today. Predictions suggest that those in the shadow of the SunRise steeple will probably be dealing with a wintery mix of ice and snow – but with far less accumulations than last Thursday’s taste of winter. Whatever it is doing today just remember that on Tuesday morning it was 64 degrees at 4am. Also, what I don’t know at this moment is what early winter weather did to adjust Wednesday night’s SunRise activities – specifically the membership class. Just to be on the safe side a third membership class has been scheduled for Wednesday March 9th from 6:30pm to 8pm. I am certainly glad that God is in the prophesy business, and we can bank on what God says will happen and what God says He will do. No guess work on our part and no needs for a backup plan. And that my friends is the Good News for us to share with others on this Thursday.

In our pick verses today the author of Hebrews takes us a little deeper into understanding the frailties of the Old Testament sacrificial system. In verse nine the phrase “the present time” refers to the historical time before Jesus. During that era sacrifices were offered that could not make the worshiper perfect or entirely righteous or holy before God. Those sacrifices could never completely cleanse one’s inner conscience so that they would no longer be conscious of the guilt and power of sin. At best the old sacrificial system provided a temporary relief from the awareness of sin but did not have the power to completely abolish the penalty of our sinful nature. The need for repetitive and annual sacrifices was replaced by the once and for all sacrifice of Jesus. In verse ten the author’s reference to the time of reformation indicates the era begun by Jesus’ sacrifice and His eventual claim to the priesthood.

Blessings
