Friday – February 25th – Hebrews 9:11-12 -----
9:11) But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
12) Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
ENVY IS USUALLY THE MOTHER OF GOSSIP.*
Hello Friday! We are just hours away from the last weekend in February and in the waning days of true winter. I must admit that my first thought when reading the inspirational thought was – where did that come from. The Daily Walk Bible readings are now squarely planted in the OT book of Deuteronomy and while the concept of envy is sprinkled throughout this book, the link to gossip caught me off guard. If there is one sin that I should regularly confess in my weekly band meetings it is the sin of gossip. In our human designed ordering of sins from worst to least - gossip always seems to battle with little white lies for the “least of these” award. Reading today’s statement, I was reminded how easily connected envy is with gossip. But it does make sense that our own insecurities, self-doubts, and seeing what someone else might possess can lead to talking about them. Lots for me to work on in being a better follower of Jesus and a positive example on behalf of the Kingdom of Heaven.
In our pick verses today the author of Hebrews now makes the transition from speaking about a sacrifice that was ultimately ineffective for our cleansing from sin to how Christ’s sacrifice purges the human conscience of sin and guilt. The first covenant relied on a human constructed sanctuary and a service of sacrificial worship designed to keep the people connected to God. In contrast Jesus utilized a divine sanctuary and offered a perfect sacrifice that would last for all time. Jesus’ sacrifice brought about a real heart cleansing to those who believe in Him. The tabernacle/sanctuary of Jesus’ ministry is established in Heaven, the true dwelling place of God. On the Day of Atonement, Aaron (and the High Priests that followed him) offered the blood of a calf for himself and then a goat for the sins of the people. But Jesus through the power of His own blood, and not the blood of an animal, was able to enter into the presence of God in heaven as our representative and mediator. Jesus’ sacrifice was not done as a once-a-year ritual but instead “once for all” event which resulted in believers obtaining eternal redemption and forgiveness of sin. His sacrifice brings full cleansing from sin for all eternity. And that is worth sharing with others today.
Blessings
