Wednesday – March 2nd – Hebrews 9:19-22     -----

9:19) For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
20) saying, "This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you."
21) Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry.
22) And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THERE IS NO BIBLICAL BASIS FOR BELIEVING THERE IS ANY SUCH THING AS A LITTLE SIN.*

Yes, today is Wednesday and it is Ash Wednesday the official marker for the beginning of the church season of Lent. We begin the traditional journey to the cross and the eventually celebration of the empty tomb on Easter Sunday. Between now and then our journey is a reminder of how we prepare ourselves for the Easter celebration through a time of reflection, spiritual inventory, and an intentional focus on the removal of our sinful tendencies. Our inspirational thought today is a great way to kick off this journey. Every sin, big or small, public or private are equal in the eyes of God. Jesus’ death on the cross was for the forgiveness of all sin, regardless of size. If you read through the Old Testament, you will quickly discover that many of what we consider to be “lesser” sins, God disciplined the sinner with tough love. As we journey to forgiveness may we eliminate from our lives anything that separates us in our relationship with God and with others.

Our pick verses today are a historical lesson of the sacrificial system put in place in the early days of Moses’ leadership in the desert. Most of the information for these four verses are drawn from Exodus 24:1-8, however an additional handful of other passages are added to fill out the whole picture painted by these verses. The purifying of both the book of the law and the holy tabernacle were accomplished through the use of a blood sacrifice. The divine irony is that blood is the most difficult stain to remove, is what God has chosen use to remove the stain of our sin. I am reminded of the great old hymn – “what can wash away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me white as snow, nothing but the blood of Jesus”. What may seem illogical or impossible to our human thinking, God uses to confirm His power and show that all things are possible though Him. Today marks the start of a journey that concludes with the greatest impossibility of all time – Jesus’ bodily resurrection from the dead. Seek to be blessed by the steps you take to the empty tomb.

Blessings
