Thursday – March 3rd – Hebrews 9:23-24 -----
9:23) Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
24) For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
UNDERSTANDING CAN WAIT; OBEDIENCE CAN’T.*
Good Thursday to you! I believe this is the first Thursday in weeks that we are not slip-sliding through wintery weather. Since there are no sounds of the popping of gloves or cracking of bats flowing up from the south, maybe this break in the weather is our reminder that spring is on the way. I am greatly encouraged by the number of folks who have shared with me, from last week’s sermon, they are reading one of the three books I recommended on spiritual warfare and/or are making a commitment to memorize scripture as part of their daily spiritual disciplines. Both of these actions are a great way to describe the foundation undergirding our inspirational thought for today. I have discovered that when I focus on being obedient in living out my faith, I ultimately discover a deeper understanding of God’s word for my life.
In our pick verses for today, the author of Hebrews gives as a behind the curtain look into the splendor of Heaven. In a way that we are not fully able to understand on this side of Heaven, the earthly Tabernacle was made as both a copy and a symbolic representation of heavenly realities. The purification of the heavenly things can best be understood as referring to Jesus’ spiritual work in heaven being done on our behalf. For those things that we do not yet have full understanding, we can lean into the understanding that this is a description of Jesus as our heavenly advocate before the throne of God. Jesus’ presence before the fullness of God serves as a constant reminder throughout the far reaches of Heaven (and Hell) that the sins of those who believe in Him have been forgiven. Jesus stands before the throne of God as our advocate to present both our needs and services as an offering to the Almighty. I am reminded of the question posted in Romans 8 – “If God is for us, who can be against us”. The answer is simple in response; nothing in all creation.
Blessings
