10:21)    and having a High Priest over the house of God,
22) let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
KEEP YOUR HEART RIGHT, EVEN WHEN IT IS SORELY WOUNDED.*

Good Tuesday to you! Here in the shadow of the O’Fallon steeple we are experiencing what I hope is the budding of springtime and all things flowery and warm. Our inspirational thought for today is one that could easily pass as wise sayings passed down from generation to generation. Every person will experience multiple times in their lives when we are emotionally hurt by someone else. At that moment we are confronted with choices in how we respond. I wish I could say that I have always chosen the upper road path featuring maturity and composure, but those responses would be few and far between. Jesus teaches that the condition of our heart is to be protected from the temptation to get even. We will find true peace when we have in us the mind/attitude that was in Jesus. When we profess to be His followers, we accept the responsibility to represent Him in our words and our actions. Easy to say but can be hard to implement.

Our pick verses today continue to explore how we are invited to draw near, confidently and boldly, into God’s presence because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Jesus’ selfless action allowed Him to step into the role of the perfect High Priest, and as followers of Jesus we become members within the house of God over which Jesus rules with full authority. Because Jesus is our High Priest, we are invited to approach God with full assurance of His welcome and acceptance. Our approach must be with a heart that is sincere and open to faith. We are welcomed because we trust Jesus’ provision to cleanse us from outward sinful actions and an inward sinful tendency. Through Jesus’ example of faith, we can draw our strength to live a fulfilling Christian life.

Blessings
  Pastor Jim

This is the problem with debating Christians who believe that they can sense the presence of the living Jesus within them: Regardless of the quantity and quality of the historical evidence that we skeptics present, evangelical Christian apologists will ignore it if it at all challenges their personal experience of Jesus living within them. And apologists will ignore any majority expert opinion which casts doubt on their personal experience of a resurrected Jesus living within them. This is why I believe that most evangelical Christians reject the majority expert opinion that the Gospels were not written by eyewitnesses or the close associates of eyewitnesses. Since their personal experiences tell them that Jesus did rise from the dead, the Gospel stories must be historically accurate. Their personal experiences with Jesus rule out even the possibility that the stories surrounding the death and alleged resurrection of Jesus are legends or theological/literary embellishments (fiction).

Bottom line: No amount of historical evidence is going to convince a Christian apologist who believes that he or she can perceive the living Jesus within their “heart” that Jesus is dead.
