Thursday – March 24th – Hebrews 11:1 -----
1) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE FAMILY ALTAR WOULD ALTER MANY A FAMILY.*
Good Thursday to you! Hot on the heels of yesterday’s play on words in our inspirational thought, today we follow up with a second statement that requires a pause on our part to allow it sink in for full effect. My observations over the last fifty years of adulthood leads me to believe that family schedules, regardless of size or ages, have become increasingly more chaotic. Even in my youth my family juggled farm responsibilities with giving each of us three kids the opportunity to participate in summer sports and school activities – and we lived twenty-two miles from town to boot. Taking time as a family, or a couple, to daily devote time to God is always time well spent in both the short and long term. Even as a child my family always saved time for church and church activities elevating them to priority for our family. While not trying to sound like an old geezer who is relishing the “good ole days”, it would be advantageous for all of us to not cut short our time with God. As the seasons are changing now is a great time to make schedule adjustments. I will take this opportunity to plug the upcoming six-week Alpha Express class that starts next week – March 30th at 6:30pm. Join Beth and I for this simple refresher of the Christian faith.
In our pick verse today, we begin with what are probably the two most familiar chapters in the book of Hebrews. The first three verses of chapter eleven focus on the nature of our faith in God. The faith by which the righteous live (10:38) is certain that things hoped for, that God’s promised blessings, will be fulfilled completely and perfectly. Faith is confident, beyond any doubt even of those things not seen with human eyes, Faith is beyond confident of God’s unlimited power and faithfulness in our lives today. For Old Testament saints Jesus’ sacrifice and entrance into Heaven were only things once hoped for. For believers they are a blessed and present reality, although not able to be seen as of yet. Both those of the past and we of today grasp them in and through complete faith in God. I am reminded of the old hymn – that we are “standing on the promises of God!”
Blessings
