Thursday – March 31st – Hebrews 11:11-12 -----
11:11) By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.
12) Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude--innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A MAN CAN BE NO BIGGER THAN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE FOR WHOM HE GENUINELY CARES.*
Hello Thursday and hello to the last day of March 2022. If I correctly remember March 1st came in like a wonderful warm lamb and is leaving, not like a snowy ferocious lion but more like a snarling cold wet cub. I am not sure how much stock we should put into those old-fashioned forms of prediction. Like the groundhog predicting the length of winter – who among us actually remembers six weeks later what the prediction was. Hmm – what was happening on March 16th and how did it relate to February 2nd? Will the forthcoming April showers really bring May flowers? Who has heard that Easter Weekend is the time to plant potatoes? How many of you in the fall rush out to carve open a persimmon seed to see if it is imprinted with a fork or a spoon? Better yet, how many of you have ever seen a persimmon or have tasted the delicacy of persimmon jam or a persimmon pie? All of us have probably grown up with a traditional family saying to predict rain, snow, dry spells, or times to plant. Take a moment today to sharing your favorite old-fashioned saying. I will let you know if there is a collective favorite among our blog readers.
In our pick verses today the author of Hebrews connects the faith of Abraham with the always dependable promises of God. From the very beginning God had promised Abraham and Sarah many descendants, but because of their advanced age there was no logical way (at least when applying human logic) for them to have a child. Nevertheless, because of her faith Sarah was blessed by God and was able to conceive. The foundation of faith is accepting what God has promised as sure, certain, and inevitable, regardless of human condition, situational circumstances, or visible confirmation. Abraham was only one man, and as far as reproduction was considered as good as dead. But because he trusted the promise God made to him, he became the father of a nation as numerous as the stars in the sky or the sand in the sea. As followers of Jesus, we joyously wait to experience the promise of eternal life when we leave this earthly body. The blessed assurance of eternity in Heaven helps make every challenge/struggle/trial on this side of heaven more bearable because we trust God’s promise of being in His presence.
Blessings
