Friday – April 1st – Hebrews 11:13-16 -----
11:13) These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14) For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland.
15) And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.
16) But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WISE MEN TALK BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY; FOOLS, BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING.*
Happy Friday to you! Be cautious today that you don’t unnecessarily fall to someone’s April fool’s joke. Our inspirational thought today seems appropriate as we “celebrate” April fool’s day. I needed to hear these words and then to put into practice the wisdom of today’s thought. If I am honest, I can more easily find myself in the second half of the statement than the first half. Our society has seemed to drift toward the desire say something even when saying nothing is more than appropriate. Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who always needed to have the last word? Have you ever labeled someone as “they love to hear themselves talk”? Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying – “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt”. I think that will be my moto for today and going forward.
In our pick verses today, the author pauses in naming the heroes of the Old Testament pages to add a short four verse summary of the working of faith in daily choices. Each hero listed in this chapter, especially Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had been given the promises of God. But they experienced the fulfillment from only “afar” because Jesus had not yet come into the world. Such people will always be considered strangers and pilgrims by a sinful world. They could have returned to the sinful life from which they had come, but they chose to remain faithful and steadfast in the Lord. Their perseverance showed that they were seeking a better “country” in Heaven. For these faithful followers, God has prepared a great and perfect city as their eternal dwelling place. As a follower of Jesus, we have inherited this same address as the saints of old. That is good news we need to share with others.
Blessings
