Wednesday – April 13th – Hebrews 11:36-38 -----
11:36) Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.
37) They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented--
38) of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE DEGREE OF OUR SPIRITUAL VIGOR HAS MUCH TO DO WITH HOW MUCH TIME WE SPEND IN GOD’S WORD.*
A good happy and healthy Wednesday to you and yours! We have reached the mid-point of our Holy Week journey that moves us to the cross of Jesus. If you are reading through the gospel accounts of the last week of Jesus life you have already discovered in Matthew’s story that Jesus did a lot of las week teachings about end of times events. My word of caution is that every generation that has existed since those words left Jesus’ mouth have experienced situations and scenarios that could be connected to these teachings. The secret I have discovered is to be prepared that the end of time could be today yet live like it may not yet happen. There is still a tremendous amount of Kingdom work to be done in the shadow of our steeple and in the shadow of your mailbox. We all know people who need to know the peace and comfort that comes from a relationship with Jesus. Who do you know that needs to hear the good news today?
In our pick verses today the author of Hebrews begins to wind down this chapter of faith stories with a generalized summation of the sufferings the people of God who willingly endured because their faith was the shield of protection against those who opposed them as God’s people. The world treated God’s people as if they were not worthy of being welcomed as normal human beings. But in reality, the world was not worthy of these resident aliens whose loyalty to their heavenly home exceeded anything the world could offer in exchange. Our humanness requires us to be “in” this world but our relationship with Jesus demands that we are not to be “of” this world.
Blessings
