Monday – April 18th – Hebrews 12:5-7     -----

5)  And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6) For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives."
7) If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?

 The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
     LENGTH OF SERVICE FOR GOD IS NOT NEARLY AS IMPORTANT AS BREADTH AND DEPTH OF SERVICE.*

      Happy Monday to you! I pray your Easter celebration was fantastic and filled with lots of family and food. But most importantly your celebration was focused on the tomb of Jesus that was and still is empty and that He is risen from the dead. As we begin this new week may we be aware that the world is in desperate need for what we know to be true about Jesus. People we will encounter today and throughout this week will be living short of the hope and peace we confidently hold as followers of Jesus. We believe in a God who loves us unconditionally and who stands ready to forgive us of our sins so we may be drawn back into a righteous relationship with the one who created us. We know all of this, and we are blessed to live under God’s grace every day of our lives. Take what you have experienced and share it with others this week.

     In our pick verses today, we continue to unpack the theme that Jesus is our example of perfect endurance. And in being our example there is the corresponding expectation that we will do all we can to pattern our lives after Jesus. Christians, through their faith and belief, become the adopted children of God, achieved through the priestly work of Jesus whose is the eternal Son of God. The author quotes in verses five and six from the Old Testament wisdom of Psalm 94 and Proverbs 3 to remind us that there are times when our actions require loving discipline from God. God’s chastening comes not as a sign of His displeasure, but because He loves us more than we can imagine or understand. If we want to be God’s children and benefit fully from our adopted status, we must be willing to submit to God’s discipline. God’s desire is for us to live in harmony with Him and with other people. We can only accomplish this goal if we make life less about ourselves and more about others.

Blessings
