Monday – April 25th – Hebrews 12:17     -----

12:17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
PESSIMISM IS PULLING TOMORROW’S CLOUD OVER TODAY’S SUNSHINE.*

Happy Monday to you! Our inspirational thought today hits me a great big OUCH stick! Yes, this thought is both blatantly painful and highly accurate. The attitude we choose to employ to begin each morning will undoubtedly set the stage for how we assess each encounter throughout the day. If we find ourselves sounding more like Eeyore and less like Winnie The Pooh then we ought to count on a day filled with pessimism. There are very few things in life we have the ability to control – the first and foremost thing on this short list is our attitude. Yes, negative circumstances can go a long way to crimp our attitude, but with the power of the Holy Spirit on our side we can choose to stay positive even in the most challenging situation. I think Christopher Robin gave some great advice to Winnie the Pooh when he said, “Always remember you’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and loved more than you know.” Paul said it another way to the believers in Philippi – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” When we have God on our side, we can approach each day with the sun shining and the attitude of a winner.

In our pick verses for today the author of Hebrews continues with his explanation of spiritual holiness through the negative example of Esau, the older brother of Jacob. Esau lived his young life on the edge of impulsive decisions. Giving away his birthright over a bowl of soup was only the beginning of his downward spiral. The summary of his attitude was that he needed no one except himself to survive and thrive. Esau made his every decision based on what was best for him with little regard for the welfare of others in his life. He eventually regretted the loss of enormous material wealth that went with the loss of his father’s blessing, yet he was not sorry or repentant for his chosen lifestyle of ungodliness. God’s desire is to bless us so that we can be a blessing to others. To fully receive God’s blessings, we need to be open in our hearts and minds for God’s encouragement and God’s discipline, as each is needed in our lives. Which are you in line for today?

Blessings
