FREEDOM DECAYS AS MATERIAL SOCIETY EXPANDS.*
Welcome to Monday!!! Another new week stretches out before us and with it the pure joy of unlimited possibilities to advance the Good News through our words and actions. Where might you be heading this week that God is already at work preparing someone to witness or hear your testimony about Jesus? I have discovered some of my best kingdom work is done as I am going through the routine of my normal day. I try to ensure that my witness for the Good News is observable in how I react to the unplanned, unexpected, or unwanted events in my life. I try to shape my words (oral & written) in a way that is consistent with my claim to be a Christ follower. Paul reminded Timothy to be read in season and out of season to “preach” the Gospel. I take that instruction to mean that “preaching” includes those informal times when others watch and listen to my life. What will your “preaching” say this week?
In our pick verses today, we expand on the instructions for Christian living by contrasting the rules and regulations of the wilderness-wandering Israelites. When someone was “outside the camp” they were excluded from social and religious acceptance. Back in the day those with leprosy were sent to live outside the camp until either they were cured or until they died. Leprous people were considered unclean, unacceptable, and outcasts of society. As followers of Jesus, the author reminds us, that we must never seek after the approval of the world or give into the temptations from the evil one to “fit in” to society. We are to instead stand with Jesus against the criticism leveled by worldly ways. Our faithfulness will lead us to our inheritance of the city of God, promised to those who believe and follow Jesus. What a great place to spend our eternity.
