1:5) If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Happy Thursday to you! Yes, in this holiday shortened work week we are already knocking on Thursday’s door. Hope your week has been filled with opportunities for spiritual growth and kingdom service. And that you successfully stepped out of your comfort zones to seize as many opportunities as possible. Our inspirational thought for today is an important reminder that there are no “off” days as a follower of Jesus. When we make a commitment to be a fully committed follower of Jesus, we sign up for a 24/7/365 lifestyle of representing the Kingdom of Heaven. Our best and most productive opportunities to witness and service often happen in the least expected places and in the oddest times. We are to live with our eyes wide open and always be ready for God to present opportunities to share with others the reason we have chosen to follow Jesus.
In our pick verse today, James begins his transition into the practical aspect of being a follower of Jesus by provided a second pillar necessary for our spiritual maturity. If we are to live our lives to the fullest capacity of God’s blessings, then we need not be shy in seeking wisdom from the Holy Spirit. At times we may be confused or uncertain of what God wants us to do so the first step is to ask God for insight and discernment. And this passage of scripture confidently states that God will respond to our request. How appropriate that a book focused on practical instructions for the Christian life should begin by tell us to pray for spiritual wisdom. In fact, this should be a daily prayer offered up early each morning.
