Saturday – June 4th – James 1:7-8 -----
1:7) For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
8) he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Happy Saturday to you and happy, happy, happy weekend, weekend, weekend as well. Cars and Coffee and New Member class fill my Saturday morning calendar. And of course, worship is on my Sunday schedule. Following the 9:45am in-building service on Sunday there will be a special recording of one of James’ original songs to be featured in an upcoming Christian movie. At the same time James will be filming a testimonial video for the next round of the You, God Music Showcase competition. If you would like to be part of the “crowd” for both of these events sign up on the SunRise website by following the “Upcoming Events” link from the home page, or just hang around following the worship service. What a great way to support James and our worship arts department. See you Sunday!
In our pick verses today, we continue to build upon James’ practical instructions for the Christian life and the importance of a solid foundation for our personal faith. Yesterday James relayed the reality that a weak-faithed person is easily tossed about like the waves on the ocean. Today James relates a spiritual immature life to a person who is double minded in their relationship with God. That type of person is double minded because they want to say they trust God, but deep down in their inner being they do not fully trust God’s power, protection, or promises completely. Wesley would say of that person that their “heart is not wholly given up to God”. To be faith-filled we must set aside the temptations of the devil to not trust God, or believe in God’s word, and instead yield ourselves to God’s call on our lives.
