1:12) Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Happy and healthy Tuesday to you! Our inspirational thought for today speaks directly to the triune deity of Jesus. In case you are curious the Daily Walk readings are in first forty chapters of the Old Testament book of Psalms. Many of the Psalms are attributed to the pen of King David and detail his many prayers lifted up to God in times of celebration, in times of struggle, and in times when he felt alone and fearful. Yet divinely embedded in these words are numerous references of messianic prophecy pointing to Jesus. It is also important to remember that David’s reign and thus the imprint of the Psalms were deeply engrained in the Jewish culture for over 1000 years before Jesus was born in Bethlehem. No mistaking that the creator of the universe was involved in the words of David’s prayers and was one in the same when the manger received a King.
In our pick verse for today James moves into a new direction of teaching that speaks directly to the faith and endurance found in a follower of Jesus. Without much elaboration on the subject James simply states that God joyously blesses those who patiently endure times of testing in their life. The first thing of great importance to note is that James doesn’t say that believers will be free or exempt from times of testing. Testing and trails are to be expected in life and for the believer the proper response is an attitude of endurance. Such endurance does not go unnoticed by God, who in turns rewards us with the crown of life made manifest in eternal life for the faithful and faith-filled follower of Jesus. If testing and trails are unavoidable then let us focus on the peace that comes from Holy Spirit aided endurance.
