Thursday – June 9th – James 1:15     -----

1:14)     But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
ANXIETY NEVER STRENGTHENS YOU FOR TOMORROW; IT ONLY WEAKENS YOU FOR TODAY.*

Good Thursday to you!  Today’s inspirational thought is perfect for a Thursday read. As the week winds down and the weekend looms on the horizon it can be easy to be overwhelmed by things in our past and the unknowns in our future, leaving us holding a bag full of anxiety. The Bible talks a lot about how worry can not add a single moment to our lives, yet many of us could mistakenly claim worry as our own personal spiritual gift. In the scriptures we are encouraged to set aside the things of which we have no control over, and instead trust that God will always have our best interest at heart. What do you need to let go of today so worry and anxiety have no hold over the peace that God desires for us to enjoy?

In our pick verses today, James continues his teaching on how we are to successfully overcome temptation in our lives. As humans it is easy for us to be tempted to blame others and make excuses for evil thoughts or sinful actions. We use excuses such as “it’s the other person’s fault”, “I couldn’t help it”, “everybody else is doing it”, “it was just a simple mistake”, “nobody’s perfect”, “the devil made me do it”, “I was pressured into doing it”, “I didn’t know it was wrong”, or “God is tempting me”. Sadly, I can use this as a personal checklist of excuses I have tried to use to justify the decisions I have made throughout my life. Bottom line is that when we use excuses, we are trying to shift blame from ourselves to someone else. And if we can shift blame than we can avoid being disciplined for our sins. A person who desires to fully follow Jesus will accept responsibility for their wrong actions, will then confess them before God, and ask for God’s forgiveness. I have discovered that his pattern of accountability will ultimately create the lesser number of future problems.

Blessing
