1:16) Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
17) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Hello Friday! What a powerful inspirational thought for us today! God is the author and creator of unconditional love and undeserving forgiveness. It was God’s love for you and me that while we were still in full rebellion mode, He took matters into His own hands and covered the penalty our sins through His death on the cross. God’s extreme example of love and forgiveness not only benefits us personally, but it also becomes the example of how our relationships with others should be based. Who might you need to forgive by letting God speak to your heart? Who will you encounter today, this weekend, or next week that needs to experience God’s love displayed through you? The work of a disciples is two-fold, first to grow in our own spiritual journey, and second to be Jesus to other people. And that my friends is nothing short of a full-time job.
In our pick verses today, we continue in James’ teaching on how Christians will be tempted by the devil to turn our backs on God. Every gift that God gives is perfect and is intended to be used by us and enjoyed. On the other hand, every test or temptation that God permits to come against us can in fact draw us closer to Him spiritually. The decision remains within each of us if we draw close to God or push God away during times of struggle. When James uses the phrase “father of lights” it has a double meaning. First, God is undeniably the creator of the sun, moon, stars, and all else that exists. Second, God is also the father of all our spiritual illumination and blessings. In this dual meaning, James contrasts the hourly variation of the sun’s shadows with God’s unchanging and perfect character.
