Sunday – June 12th – James 1:19-20     -----

1:19)    So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
20) for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
      NO DAILY MEAL IS COMPLETE WITHOUT THE BREAD OF LIFE.*

     Happy Sunday to you! Yes, we have arrived at another day where tradition is that we gather to worship God and give thanks for the richness of God’s blessings poured upon us. And yes, every day is a day to give thanks to God. Yet Sunday is that one day a week when we set aside our busy schedules to pause and worship with other believers. At SunRise we are in week four of our “Who We Are" series. This is a collaborate effort of the SunRise staff to discern God’s calling upon SunRise Church and where God is leading us into mission and ministry as a church family. Join us in-building at 8am or 9:45am. Online livestream is at 9:45am or on-demand anytime after the conclusion of the livestream service. Thank you for being part of the new SunRise Church!

    In our pick verses today, James begins a new subtopic that will carry us through the rest of chapter one - “Serving God Means Obeying Him”. While our scripture verses are from the New King James version of the Bible, verse nineteen should have a very familiar ring to it in any version. You may have learned this verse as be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. The bottom line is equally the same in any version that a righteous person who is intent on serving God will always assess a situation before speaking or reacting. Many times, our slow to speak and slower to anger approach is the only way God can effectively change the hearts and minds of others. Too often I have inflicted more harm than good when I jump in because I am upset or guided by fear, frustration, or anger. To make his point in verse twenty, James reminds us that self-centered anger, no matter our intention, never please God. Such festering wrath needs to be cleansed from a Christian’s life. One of my early in ministry mentors use to say that it is important to know what is worth going to the mat over. The secret to this strategy is to know beforehand what is and isn’t mat worthy.

Blessings
