Wednesday – June 15th – James 1:23-24     -----

1:23)  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
 24) for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

 The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
       IF YOU DON’T WANT THE FRUITS OF SIN IN YOUR LIFE, STAY OUT OF SIN’S ORCHARD.*

     Welcome to Wednesday. Also welcome to the midway spot in this week, in this month, and just fifteen days away from the midway point of this year. That sure is a lot of midways to celebrate today. Our inspirational thought qualifies as one of those “duh” statements. Yet the need to state it means that there are folks who forget to listen and follow the instruction of wise counsel. While some could argue it can be difficult to recognize when enter the orchard of sin, for most of us we already have a firsthand knowledge of when we are on the edge of trespassing into sin-filled territory. It is not the location that trips us up but the well-crafted temptations of the devil that veils the reality of sin to our eyes. Whatever the words the devil places in our mind – justified, deserving, outdated – we stray into sin’s garden compelled by our own footsteps. The only way out of sin’s grasp is to refocus our hearts, minds, and souls on God’s love. What a great goal for us on this multiple midway day in June.

    In our pick verses for today James expands on the importance of being a doer of the word and not just one who hears. James stresses the need to transition hearing God’s word into action by comparing our looking in a mirror (hearing) but when we walk away, we forget the image we have seen (lack of doing). The way to overcome this forgetfulness is to take what we hear and immediately find a way to put it into action. We know from life experiences that when we practice a learning it will become a habit that is not soon forgotten. What is a recent biblical learning that you need to put into the “doing” column of your life before you forget? What is a regular habit you practice that came from biblical insight? Makes me wonder how many spiritual things if have forgotten because I failed to transition from hearing to doing?

Blessings
