Friday – June 17th – James 1:26     -----

1:26)     If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
YOU CANNOT STARVE A PERSON WHO IS FEEDING ON GOD’S PROMISES.*

Happy Friday to you! The weekend is knocking at our door. In the shadow of the SunRise steeple there are lots of shadows, and the temps have been dangerously high this past week. Even though predictions are for the lower 90’s over the next few days there still exits some consideration for extreme caution when you are planning outdoor activities. Please keep in your prayers the adult mission team as they wrap up their week in Jackson, Ky and begin their journey back home on Saturday. Also be praying for the Family Ministry team as they put on the final touches for Vacation Bible School next week! And just who said summer is a slow time around the church?

Over the next two days James begins wrapping up this first chapter and his section on serving and obeying God. In our verse today he also teases us with an upcoming subject he will expand on in chapter three – the challenge we have with our human tongue. True obedient faith in Jesus does not show itself merely in following religious rituals, rules, or regulations. Real Christian faith is evident when we restrain our tongue from speaking evil of others. James also shares that not only can our tongue ruin relationships with others, but it can also affect the condition of our heart (our relationship with God). Spend some time today thinking before you speak – no matter how tempted you might by the evil one to say something you think is justified or appropriate for the situation. Ask first is it something Jesus would have said.

Blessings
