Monday – June 20th – James 2:2-4     -----

2:2)   For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes,
3) and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, "You sit here in a good place," and say to the poor man, "You stand there," or, "Sit here at my footstool,"
4) have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
USE THE PAST AS A SPRINGBOARD, NOT A SOFA.*

Good Monday to you as we begin the first day of VBS at SunRise. What an exciting time for the children in our church and our community to fill our building this week. The theme this year is God’s monumental love. Please be praying for all who are involved throughout this week. Our inspirational thought for today is perfect for a Monday. While it is important to relish our past accomplishments in life, we need to avoid turning them into idols of worship. The devil would like nothing more from us than to be satisfied with resting on our previous victories with the intent to distract us from future endeavors. What might God have waiting for you to undertake this week that becomes a new victory for the Kingdom of Heaven?

In our pick verses today, James expands on his teaching of our not showing partiality to another person. His example of outwardly appearing rich person arriving for the religious service can easily translate to modern times. Admittedly, an outward appearance or famed notoriety can easily cause a stir within a worshiping congregation. Yet James is teaching us that we show partiality if we over-treat or mistreat people based simply on their outward appearance. Such behavior springs from the feeling that we are better than others just because of our circumstances. Such a mindset arises from our less than perfect sense of self-worth. We should treat all people the same regardless of who they are, how they are dressed, or where they are from. What a great Christian discipline to practice this week.

Blessings
