Thursday – June 23rd – James 2:8-9     -----

2:8)    If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well;
9) but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
     IF PEOPLE SPEAK ILL OF YOU, LIVE SO THAT NO ONE WILL BELIEVE THEM.*

     Good Thursday to you! Let’s jump right into our inspirational thought for today. Working from the opposite of yesterdays commandment not to speak ill of someone else, today we are encouraged to react like Jesus if someone speaks ill of us. I know that at times my reaction when someone speaks against me is to step-up and defend myself – often with the result of validating their statements about me. When I do respond by living my life like Jesus my actions refute the words spoken against me, I am reminded of the proverbs that encourages us to remain silent to let others think we are foolish and not open our mouths and prove it. On this almost end of the week, live so that no one would believe anything bad spoken about you.

    In our pick verses today, James gives every believer the same important but difficult instruction in how to order our lives as followers of Jesus. The gospels record Jesus second greatest commandment as loving our neighbors. James calls it the “royal law” of scripture. For believers this encompasses the summation of all the other laws. We are to treat all people with the same love, dignity, and respect that we would want to be treated by others. To keep this law is to live as Jesus lived. To show partiality, however, is a breach of the law of love. When we fail to love our neighbors, we have sinned against the God who created them in His image and likeness. How might we treat a friend or foe, a neighbor or stranger today that would help draw them closer to Jesus?

Blessings
