Sunday – June 26th – James 2:14     -----

2:14)   What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
TOO OFTEN CHRISTIAN UNITY CAN BE ILLUSTRATED BY TWO COLD PORCUPINES HUDDLING TOGETHER— THEY NEED EACH OTHER, BUT THEY NEEDLE EACH OTHER.*

Happy and blessed Sunday to you! What a great Sunday to join us for worship. We conclude our amazing VBS week with our kids sharing a couple of their favorite songs in the 9:45am worship service followed by a hotdog and snow cone celebration. This week we also begin a new teaching series “Thank You For Being A Friend”. Over the next five weeks we will explore the importance of being a friend in all contexts of life and relationships. Join us inbuilding at either 8am or 9:45am. Online livestream first airs at 9:45am on Sunday and then is available on-demand anytime afterward that fits your schedule. While you are worshipping online be sure and “subscribe” to follow SunRise Church O’Fallon on YouTube.

In our pick verse today, James introduces a new sub-section of teaching, and probably the one he is most noted for writing. Today we begin exploring the theological foundation of how good works will follow a faith decision. Faith is more than a simple intellectual belief in the existence of God. If that belief does not lead us to a holy life of righteousness and mercy, it is not a saving faith. Some folks at this point in James’ letter like to create a conflict between him and Paul concerning faith and works. Be assured both of these first century church leaders were advocating the same results – we need a saving faith in Jesus Christ to gain eternity. If you read each of these men’s positions, you will quickly discover they are not face to face confrontational but actually back-to-back fighting two common enemies of the cross. Paul opposes works-righteous legalism while James opposes easy-believism. Both men make clear that we are going to be judged on the basis what we have done as a follower of Jesus, for that is the true indicator of a genuine salvation. Hold on my friends James will challenge us to the core over the next week of scripture reading.

Blessings
  Pastor Jim
