Happy and healthy Thursday to you! Today, we have reached the end of the first half of 2022. How has the last six months measured up for you? Have you achieved all the goals you set back in January? Are your resolutions still leading your life’s journey? Has your time in scripture created personal discipleship growth? Now, after spending a few minutes reflecting on the first half of the year, we can begin focusing on what God is calling us to do in the remaining days of 2022. But don’t think to long because if the second half of the year goes as fast as the first half, a blink or two and we will be staring at 2023. Which means that we will be kicking off the first seven-week session of “Journey of a Lifetime” on Wednesday evenings at SunRise.
In our pick verse for today James continues to raise the challenge that faith without works is dead. To further his argument James reminds his readers that even the demons know who Jesus is and yet they refuse to obey and serve Him. In Jesus day, we read in the Gospels that those who would first recognize Jesus as God in the flesh were the demons he encountered, and their typical response was a plea for Jesus to have mercy on them. They knew who and what Jesus was long before the men and women around Him and yet not one of them converted to become a follower. A person can possess an intellectual knowledge of who Jesus is, but they can easily fall short of making a commitment to serve as a faith filled discipled. James does not want his readers to fall to the tempting of Satan to rest on knowing about Jesus without have a faith that springs into action. A person of faith will joyfully put their faith into action for the good of the Kingdom of Heaven. With half of the year ahead of us what a great goal to set for ourselves.
