Saturday – July 2nd – James 2:21-22     -----

2:21)  Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
22) Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WISDOM OPENS THE EYES TO BOTH THE GLORIES OF HEAVEN AND THE HOLLOWNESS OF EARTH.*

Welcome to Saturday and to the weekend. Things are hopping at SunRise on this first Saturday in July. If the weather is corporative this month’s edition of Cars-N-Coffee will take place in the McClure lot from 8am-10pm. If you love old cars, new cars, hotrod cars, classic cars, or cars in general then this is the place to hang out Saturday morning. On Sunday, the second week of our series “Thank You For Being A Friend” focuses on our being a friend to strangers. The Bible is filled with scriptures that directly address how the people of God are to treat those who we might consider outside our group. Same great worship happens either in-building or online.

In our pick verses today, James takes his readers – Jewish people who have converted to Christianity – back into a very familiar part of their ancestral history. They story of Abraham was taught in every household throughout every generation. James relied on this traditional and sentimental attachment to their patriarch Abraham as the perfect example of how faith without works is dead. James states that Abraham was declared right with God for what he did because he believed God. In Romans 4:1-5, Paul writes that Abraham first believes in God and thus sealed his relationship with God. Once again, we are confronted with what seems to be contradicting thoughts on what saves a person. However, these two first century theologians are actually complementing each other’s order of salvation. Both agree that we are not justified by what we do. True faith always results in good deeds, but the deeds themselves do not justify us with God. Faith brings us salvation while active obedience demonstrates that our faith is genuine. Abraham displayed his faith though his willingness to sacrifice Isaac. We display our faith not by only talking about it but by living it into action.
