Monday – July 4th – James 2:25-26     -----

2:25)   Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26) For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
GOD WRITES WITH A PEN THAT NEVER BLOTS, SPEAKS WITH A TONGUE THAT NEVER SLIPS, AND ACTS WITH A HAND THAT NEVER FAILS.*

Welcome to this 4th of July Monday. Hope you have an opportunity to enjoy the extended weekend if you are one that has today off from work. Today is so much more than loud noises, colored flashes in the sky, outings on the boat, or family gatherings. I also hope you take a moment to reflect on the importance of this holiday and the reason we celebrate our freedoms as a nation and our freedoms as individuals within that nation.

In our pick verses today, James concludes his presentation on the proper ordering of faith and works as he closes out chapter two of this book. Once again drawing from a familiar historical story, James uses the faith and actions of Rahab as his final argument. Rahab lived in Jericho, the first city the Israelites conquered as they entered the Promised Land. When Israelite spies came to scout out the city, she hid them and helped them escape. In this way she demonstrated faith in God’s purpose for the nation of Israel. As a result of her faith in action she and her family were saved when the city was destroyed under the leadership of Joshua. Hebrews 11:31 lists Rahab among the heroes of faith in the Old Testament. Imagine what our acts of faithfulness might do in bringing others into a relationship with Jesus.
