Thursday – June 7th – James 3:3

3:3) Indeed, we put bits in horses' mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A WISE PERSON WILL DESIRE NO MORE THAN HE OR SHE MAY GET JUSTLY, USE SOBERLY, DISTRIBUTE CHEERFULLY, AND LEAVE CONTENTEDLY.*

Happy Thursday to you! Our inspirational thought for today, while included in the Daily Walk Bible that is distributed worldwide, certainly hits home to those of us who live in a first-world society. The collection of possessions could almost be considered the twenty-first century national pastime. One of the fastest growing industries in the United States is the operation of storage units. In the spiritual warfare frontlines, the devil has successfully tempted us with the need for “things”. We are easily wrangled into believing the sweet words of the evil one to justify our filled basements, crowded garages, and overflowing storage buildings. Our inspirational thought has provided a much-needed dose of both reality and inspiration for me today – hope it has for you as well.

In our pick verse today, James’ illustration of a horse is particularly appropriate because the bit lies on the top of a horse’s tongue, and when attached to the bridle and reins, it is possible for the rider using that bit to easily make the horse obey. Controlling the horses’ mouth controls their heads which in turn directs their entire body. Neither the size of the horse nor the size of the rider makes a difference as the power to control the largest of horses by the smallest of people is in the bit. Even gentle horses, which have been ridden for years, are not controllable without the use of a bit in their mouths. As long as a horse is expected to preform service, whether for riding or for pulling a wagon or plow, they require control. So, it is with believers. To be useful to God, we will need our tongues controlled, with allows everything else in our life to follow in submission.

Blessings
