4)   Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
TRUTH IS ALWAYS NARROW, BUT ERROR GOES OFF IN ALL DIRECTIONS.*

Hello Friday!  Yes, we have reached the last day of this shortened work week. Our inspirational thoughts this week have all been connected through the Old Testament book of Proverbs. Great words of wisdom for daily living and many of them are summed up in this inspirational thought. Truth can be at times difficult to ascertain but with a little effort truth is always available. Not to sound to much like a writer of proverbs, but a lazy person will forgo the effort to obtain truth and settle for the misdirection of gossip, rumors, or even lies. You don’t have to be a rocket surgeon to know that a lack of truth will only create problems down the road. If you need the best source of unchanging and unparallel truth, then spend time each day in God’s word. It has been on the mark for thousands of years and will prove to be the only source of truth that stands the test of time.

In our pick verse today, James utilizes a second illustration, that of a ship, in how to control the tongue and the words that come from our mouths. Even though ships can be extremely large they are controlled by a small rudder. The ships of James’ day would be considered small in comparison to the gigantic cruise ships or warships of today. The ship Paul traveled on his voyage to Rome had a total of 276 persons (crew, soldiers, and prisoners) plus a hold filled with cargo. Both then and now the principle of directing a ship remains the same. The helmsman turns a wheel that is attached to the rudder and the ship moves at the discretion of the captain. A small rudder, in comparison to the overall size of the ship, possess the ability to easily turn the ship to the left or the right, or hold a steady forward position. A great question would be what holds control of you – your tongue or the Holy Spirit?

Blessings
