Monday – July 11th - James 3:7-8     -----

3:7)   For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.
8)  But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A USELESS LIFE IS AS GOOD AS AN EARLY DEATH.*

Welcome to Monday! Another new week for us to embrace as a follower of Jesus. Our inspirational thought sets a strong tone for how we should be shaping our life for this coming week. While it seems a little bold on the surface, it does carry a powerful punch to help define the role of a Christian. As a believer we have been blessed with the future promise of eternal life in Heaven, we have been gifted with God’s forgiving grace because of God’s unconditional love for us, and we have received instructions to be God’s representative while we are here on earth. If we fail to share what God has done and continues to do in our life we will be counted as having a life that is unfulfilled and, and as our thought for today express, useless for the Kingdom of Heaven. What can we do this week to be useful for the kingdom?

In our pick verses today, James contrasts the ability for humans to tame wild animals of all kinds (albeit a preacher’s count to include “every” creature) with our inability to control our own tongue. James is suggesting that even the wildest beast of nature is less primitive, more civilized, and controllable than the undisciplined tongue of those who train the wild animals. No human being, no not one of us, has within ourselves the power to control our tongue effectively or consistently. Even among believers the tongue can easily speak unkind word and as a result do great harm. And if we are honest, there are times that our words can be spoken so subtle that they escape our notice until well after the damage is done. And yet all Christians have God’s perfect help readily available to call upon. When forming words in our mind, we should take to heart David’s prayer from Psalm 19:14, that every word we speak would be acceptable to God. As we begin this new week may each of us take the time to first ask if our words (verbal or written) will in fact be acceptable to God and not cause a harm to others.

Blessings
