Tuesday – July 12th – James 3:9-10     -----

3:9)   With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.
10) Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
NOTHING IN THIS LOST WORLD BEARS THE IMPRINT OF THE SON OF GOD SO SURELY AS FORGIVENESS.*

Hello Tuesday! What are you excited for on this Tuesday in July? What are you working on? What goals, or tasks, or travels are on your calendar for today? I ask this as Tuesdays can seem like a “lost” day of the week. Calmly nestled between first of the week Monday and middle of the week Wednesday it can seem like a bland transition day bridging two more notable days of the week. Yet, when overlayed with our inspirational thought I can’t help but think that everyday is important to God and to our populating of the Kingdom of Heaven. We are given the opportunity each day to represent the kingdom by being an agent of forgiveness extended to others. Sometimes expressing forgiveness is easy and other times our entire body is in resistance mode. I must remind myself all the time that God has forgiven me for the sins I have committed against Him. Forgiveness doesn’t change the circumstances or consequences of actions, nor does it validate the actions of others or even the actions of ourselves. Forgiveness means that we are free to move on in our life and not be held in bondage by another person’s actions.

In our pick verses today James zeroes in on the struggle we have with controlling the human tongue. Once again, we need to remember that our words are a reflection our true inward character, and are not simply byproducts of the muscle referred to in James’ letter as the human tongue. With the same inward nature, we can bless God and then turn around and curse someone who has been made in the image and likeness of God. Friends, even the most vile or hateful person traces their creation back to likeness of God. When we speak evil of someone else, we have in fact spoken against the God we have already praised. How tragically inconsistent and hypocritical we humans can be when it comes to the words that freely flow from our mouths. While we are all guilty of being double-tongued with our words – yes even the words we type on social media – the power of the Holy Spirit is available to help keep us in check and to help us from making a fool of ourselves when we open our mouths.

Blessings
