Welcome to Monday! This is a big day for the SunRise family. The caravan for our youth mission trip to Appalachia headed out early this morning. Accompanied by a handful of dedicated adults these young people will be rolling up their sleeves while sweating up a storm as they assist a small rural community in far eastern Kentucky. Mission trips can change a life – both on the receiving end and the giving end. Our youth will have an opportunity to see and experience a radically different culture and lifestyle than in our upper middle-class community of O’Fallon. Please be praying for our team as they travel, as they serve, as they learn, as they make friends, and as they are transformed by the hand of God.
In our pick verse today, James now shares the blessing of what happens when we allow ourselves to be influenced by the Kingdom of Heaven and not the self-centered agendas of this world. First, James identifies that true wisdom is not of this world but comes down directly from God in Heaven. This downward direction is how God fills the souls of believers to better represent Him on earth. Adam Clarke, a noted Wesleyan theologian calls this descending wisdom “the pure religion of the Lord Jesus, bought by His blood, and infused by His spirit”. When we open ourselves to God’s wisdom the outcome will be the observable fruit of our actions, words, and deeds. How might we begin this week with a renewed commitment to seeking God’s wisdom while rejected the agenda-filled thoughts of this world?
