Saturday – July 30th – James 3:17     -----

4:17) If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
REPENTANCE MAY BE OLD-FASHIONED, BUT AS LONG AS THERE IS SIN, IT WILL NEVER BE OUTDATED.*

Welcome to Saturday. All indications suggest that today will be a very pleasant day weather-wise. Take the opportunity as best you can to enjoy God’s great outdoors and the beauty of nature all around us. This weekend we begin a new sermon series at SunRise – “Be The Change”. This six-week study will focus on how we can be the change agent for the church reaching out into the world. God has given us a commission to share the gospel with others through our words and through our actions. This series will challenge us as individuals and as a church to assess how we are fulfilling this role and how we can together be the change needed in this world. Also on Sunday is our super-duper church picnic following the 9:45am worship service. Free food, great fellowship, and awesome activities for the kids. I hope to see you there!! You can still signup to join the cornhole tournament or enter the best dessert contest, or to just let us know you are attending. www.sunrisefamily/events

In our pick verse today, James closes out chapter four and his teaching on how depending on God makes us more Christlike in our daily lives. In typical James format, he bold states that if we know what God is calling us to do and we don’t do it, then we have sinned and fallen short in our faith walk. A sin of omission can be as serious as a sin of commission, but the sin of knowing and yet disobeying drives a deeper wedge into our relationship with God. John Wesley stated that sin “rightly-so called” is a willful transgression of the known law of God. James’ distinction of who knows, and who does not, clearly implies our voluntary choice to intentionally disregard God’s will. How might we better focus on doing that which God has instructed us to do?

Blessings
