Monday – August 8th – James 5:13      -----

5:13) Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE POSSIBILITIES OF PRAYER RUN PARALLEL WITH THE PROMISES OF GOD.*

Good Monday to you my blog reading friends! Today starts a new week and as the old cliché goes the first day of the rest of your life. Interestingly our inspirational thought and our scripture verse go hand in hand as both focus on the power and importance of prayer. Prayer is defined as being in conversation with God while trying to avoid telling God what needs to be done. Our inspirational thought strongly suggests that in our prayer conversations we seek insight into what is the true nature of God. His promises are at the foundation of who God is and what God wants for each of us.

Our pick verse today opens what is considered James’ third major teaching in this letter. Faith without works, resisting the devil, and now the power of prayer rounds out his top three takeaways in this book. In every circumstance of life our highest duty and greatest privilege is to be in communion with God. When we hear of someone else, or if we are suffering hardships in life, we are to first and foremost be in prayer. Many times, we tend to exhaust all of the human resources we have at our disposal before we turn to prayer. On the flip side of suffering, when we are filled with joy and happiness, we need to give God the glory and lift up our voices in prayer. While praise is appropriate when life is good, there can also be praise even when life is difficult when we remember God’s greatness. Think of Paul and Silas in the Philippian prison singing praise songs at midnight (Acts 16). What might you be singing this week to praise God’s name?

Blessings
