Thursday – September 1st – 1 Peter 1:24-25     -----

24) As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades.
25) But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
LIKE A DELICATE SEISMOGRAPH, HOSEA’S SENSITIVE SOUL RECORDED THE HIDDEN AND SECRET RUMBLINGS OF DIVINE JUDGMENT.*

Shlam'alokhon Thursday! While our inspirational thought speaks of secrets, it is no secret where the corresponding Biblical reading comes from in the Daily Walk Bible. Yes, our journey through the Bible in 2022 begins the first day of September in the book of Hosea. With only four months remaining in this year, I must admit I am calculating in my head the number of prophetic books still to read in the Old Testament (12 books) and then all of the New Testament (27 books) and begin to wonder how it will all come together. Then I am reminded this is my fourth time using the Daily Walk Bible as my reading guide, and in all three previous readings we ended the last chapter of the book of Revelation on New Years Eve. If I were a betting person, I would wager that same will happen this year. It is never too late, or never a bad time to jump in and read along with your own copy of The Daily Walk Bible.

Today our two pick verses close out Peter’s first chapter in his first epistle. The stark reality of Peter’s words reminds us of the importance of having an eternal relationship with God in Heaven. Peter quotes the Old Testament prophet Isaiah to remind humanity of their shelf-life existence here on earth. We enter this world, spend time in this world, and then we exit this world – never knowing the length of our stay. Nothing or no one is permanent or will last forever on this side of Heaven. Peter’s words, first spoken to a group of Christians who were persecuted for their beliefs in Jesus, are a poetic expression of the transience of life in contrast to the eternal life promised by the word of the Lord. If likened to a financial decision on the better choice of investing for great returns in the future or spending now for instant gratification, we have the choice of investing in our eternal future and a life of holiness or squandering away God’s promise for a moment of personal pleasure. Not sure how much time is actually needed for that decision.
